Akri Taverna

Travels > Greece > Akri Taverna

In the heart of Rethymno Old town, just off Souliou Steet beat the throbbing heart of the AKPH Taverna. It was a traditional Mezedopoleio and I ran the gravel with Bekri Mezes, Piperies, Tzatziki, Kotopoulo Souvlakia, Melitzanes Tiganites, Garides Saganaki, Saganaki Turi, Mudia Tiganita, Koukouvagies, Salates, Kolokuthokeftedakia, Spanakoturopitakia, Kalamarakia, Garides, Atherina and Soutsoukakia to name a small smattering of our gorgeous food ranges. These were served with afthona Krasia apo to vareli and the waiter was powered by Amstel.

Dimitris was the afentiko whilst the owner Brigitte ran the kitchen.

The Avli danced often to merry sounds of Bellou, Tsitsanis and Bambakaris, O Leles and the Kontogianni covered the corners whilst Tavli sounds made tiny echoes against the minaret above.....

We danced all evening here, often to live music from Manolis, Raymond ,the Albanian Classical Violinist, Lefteri on his Bouzouki or just us and out laughter.

The air was redolent with Jasmine and the chirp if the Tzitzikas in the trees.
