Little Swim School

At the little swim school there is on offer a natural progression from infant water safety programmes like Little Dippers, but also welcome children who have had little experience of the water.

The LIttle Swim School, based in Burgess Hill, specialises in teaching pre-school children. The unique teaching programme combines ASA recognized teaching methods with building water confidence and development or introduction of water safety techniques. The little swim school is affiliated to the ASA.

Most children join the little swim school at around 1, after finishing little dippers or a similar infant water safety programme. They start in our Introduction class, moving through our 5 little swim school stages. Each stage corresponds to an ASA Duckling Award level. Children who are a different age or level of experience are assessed at a tester class to find the most suitable class for them.

Class sizes are kept small with a maximum of 6 or 7 children in a class to ensure that each child gets plenty of individual attention and where possible we try to keep the same children together from term to term – some of our children’s first friendships were made in the pool!

Teachers are fully qualified ASA Teachers, hold the Teachers Rescue Certificate, are first aid trained, members of the Institute of Swimming and are police checked. Our teaching programme is unique to the little swim school. Teachers additionally spend between 3 and 6 months training with us before they take their own classes.

At the little swim school we only use warm private pools, that run between 31 and 34 degrees, because small children tend to get cold more quickly than older children and adults.

Lessons are available in Brighton, East Sussex and Burgess Hill, West Sussex.
